Dance Charity Concert @ MaTiC
I was commissioned by a friend to cover a dance charity concert at MaTiC last month. When I was approached by her, I have no idea that the production would be this professional and huge. All that went through my mind was that it’s going to be a small concert with a number of parents coming by to watch their kids perform. However, when I went there for the actual shoot, I was pleasantly surprised by how simple and yet professionally everything was organized. They even printed my name on the leaflet as one of the main photographer for the event (chewah ~~~ head getting big) but then I totally forgot to keep a copy of the brochure and silly me didn’t even took a picture of it. Tsk tsk … *fail*
Anyway, that’s not the purpose of this post. Just wanted to share some of my favourite shots that I took during concert.
Special thanks to Jason for loaning me his 70-200mm f.28 IS L, I wouldn’t have been able to capture those close-up shots without it, also to Benjamin for tagging along and helping out.
Philip and Yvelyn
It’s been a while since my last post. Just wanted to share quick post on a wedding that I covered recently. Yvelyn was a long time friend of mine who went to pursue her dream in Canada 2 years ago.
During that time, she met up with Philip and got swept off her feet. After a year of courtship, they were married in Vancouver and then return to Malaysia for a church blessing ceremony and a wedding dinner.
Here are some of my favourite shots of both the ceremony and the dinner.
To Phil and Yve,
Thanks for the privilege to be both your photographer and also a witness to your wedding day in Malaysia. May God continue to bless both of you and your marriage so that in whatever circumstances that both of you go through in the future, He will always be there to guide you and that His plans for both your lives be fulfilled.
Have a great time in Canada and may your home be filled with lots of warmth, love and happiness.
Reflection
I’ve been thinking about what I should really write on this blog. Though this is somewhat like an online portfolio of my work, I believe I should also write a bit about who I really am and also what do I really think about photography, I mean this is a blog after all. Heh …
Well, it’s been two years now since I started to seriously venture into photography. Never knew I would be so bold as to leave my corporate desk job and jump into this industry with almost little to no experience. Back then, all I could think of was that I love what I’m doing and that I should do my best to pursue it while I still have the time to do so. Though I’m still very far behind compared to the many professionals in the industry, this hunger that I feel whenever I see a beautiful photo continues to drive me on, pushing me to learn more and be better.
Ever since I started coming out and be on my own, I’ve been very blessed to have met up with some very established and artistic wedding photographers in the industry who not only given me their friendship but also the opportunity to learn and to share. In the midst of a huge pool of newcomers and upcoming photographers, somehow I’m blessed to be one of them who’s given the opportunity to meet, to work and to learn from them. For lack of better words to describe how I truly felt about all these, all I could muster up is this. “Wow! If there’s anything I could do to help out, I would be more than willing to return the favor.”
Since my work is already displayed here for all to see. I guess, it’s easy for anyone to gauge that there’s still a lot to be done in order for me to come up to the standard that’s required of a professional wedding/portrait photographer. That said, I’m glad that this blog gives me to opportunity to be honest with my work so that whoever chooses to hire me will know what I’m capable of producing. The last thing I want to do is to make empty promises or over promise the people who choose to work with me. That said, with each given opportunity, I’ll continually aim to do better, to produce better result and to create images that truly will last a lifetime.
I’m still yearning for more. I’m still not contended with my work and I’m still craving for more opportunities so that I could improve and be better.
To all who believed in me and have entrusted me with the responsibility of capturing the memories of your wedding, thank you. Without you it would not be possible for me to even begin stepping into this industry. It’s truly an honour.
To all who visited this site and are contemplating about my work, thank you for coming by. Though it’s not as great compared some of the more established photographers in the industry, I’m proud of my work so far and I excited to see what the future holds for me as I continue to challenge myself to strive for better result with each future shoot.
AWP Event (Part 2)
Here’s part two of the AWP event pictures. Once again, with permission from the main photographer I’m posting this up. I keep revisiting this set of images trying to determine which post processing would be more suitable for it. Can’t say I’m entirely satisfied with the result but it’s good enough for me.
Sheryl and Eng Kun AD
Two months ago, I was given the privilege to cover Sheryl and Eng Kun’s wedding day. Once again, I felt grateful to be given the opportunity to cover their wedding day. In fact, when I first received the referral, I was unable to confirm the date with them due to some conflict in my schedule but they waited for a month just to get my reply anyway. Wow ~
By far this is the happiest and fun wedding we’ve covered so far (Ben was the second shooter that day.). Everyone had so much fun, it was all laughter and joy throughout the day literally.
Here are some of my favourites.
To Sheryl and Eng Kun. Once again, thank you so much for the privilege. You two are so much fun to work with, we felt like we were part of the group throughout your wedding day. Blessed marriage and may the both of you continue on this journey together as one with much happiness and joy.
Next Week’s Blogpost Sneak Preview
Mee and Yang AD Wedding
As promised, this will be my first post in my venture into wedding photography. I’m posting up the very first actual day wedding that I’ve covered some time back, March 09 to be exact. Here are some of my favourites.
Morning preparation
The arrival of “heng tais” and games
Love the way she look at him when the groom finally “got through”
Then the “chum char” (tea pouring) session, somewhat emotional,
As we were leaving, I got this shot of the bride.
Some inpromptu shot at the grooms place before the next “chum char” session begins.
Here we go, some of my favourite for the day.
To Mee Yee and Yang: My apologies for taking so long to post this up. I really really appreciate the opportunity given to me to cover your wedding. I was just starting out with no experience in weddings and without a portfolio, yet you’ve been so generous in giving me the opportunity to do so. I’m really grateful for that.
I wish that you two will have a blissful and blessed marriage.
